  •   Jicarilla Apache History (Part 1)

A poignant account of events that led to the ​removal of the Jicarilla Apache people from their homelands to the now established Jicarilla Apache Reservation in northern New Mexico. (Emergence to 1887). Our presentation shares the myriad of stories as told by elders of the Jicarilla Apache that captivates our audience as if living through the hardships and victories.

  •   Jicarilla Apache History (Part 2)

A story of resilience and survival as community confronts new challenges that transformed their lifestyle from hunter-gatherers to farmers, sheep herders, and cattle ranchers. It explores the impacts of the education system and the effects of colonization and assimilation to the now modern Apache.. (1887 to present)

Jay Vigil joins L Designs, Etc. in speaking to the Jicarilla IHS staff

May 2, 2024.   Jay Vigil, a respected figure known for his devotion to prayer, delivered an enlightening talk on the Jicarilla Apache Bear Dance. Demonstrating his profound understanding of Jicarilla Apache customs, Jay drew from his extensive knowledge and personal learning from community elders.  His presentation deepen the IHS staff's understanding of this sacred tradition.

Bryan Vigil and Lorene Willis visit Dulce High School students.

May 13, 2024.  Bryan Vigil and Lorene Willis recently delivered an informative presentation to the students of Merl Elote's Language Course at Dulce High School. The presentation focused on the medicinal and edible plants of the Jicarilla Apache, and included two videos demonstrating the proper harvesting techniques for ha'ich'idee and jibaa. The presentation provided valuable insights into the Apache's great respect and connection to Mother Earth, and their responsibility to care for her in return.
